What is a septic tank?
A septic tank is a watertight chamber that is typically made of concrete, fiberglass, or plastic. It is used to treat wastewater from homes and businesses that are not connected to a central sewer system. Septic tanks are usually installed underground and can vary in size, but most are large enough to hold around 1,000 gallons of wastewater.
Why do septic tanks fail?
There are many reasons that septic tanks fail, but some of the most common include:
- Improper maintenance not regularly pumping and cleaning your septic tank can lead to a buildup of sludge and scum, which can eventually clog the system.
- Too much water if there is too much water entering the septic tank, it can overload the system and cause it to fail. This is often caused by things like excessive rainfall or leaks in plumbing fixtures.
- Tree roots tree roots can penetrate septic tanks and damage the system, leading to failure.
- Sewage back-up if sewage starts backing up into your home, its a sign that your septic tank is failing and needs to be repaired immediately.
What property owners can do to avoid problems
As a property owner, it is important to be aware of the potential problems that can occur with your septic system. Regular maintenance and repairs can help avoid serious issues, and CDS Septic is here to help if you do run into any problems. In this blog, we will discuss some of the things you can do to keep your septic system in good working order.
One of the most important things you can do to avoid septic problems is to have your system inspected regularly. A professional inspection can identify potential issues before they become serious, and allow you to make the necessary repairs or adjustments. It is also important to have your system pumped every few years to remove any built-up waste.
Another way to avoid septic problems is to be mindful of what goes into your system. Avoid putting any harsh chemicals or solvents down the drain, as these can damage the microbes that break down waste in your septic tank. You should also limit the amount of water you use, as too much water can overwhelm the system.

My girlfriend and I live in a 55 plus adult community that did not install a water line for the refrigerator because back in the 1970’s there was no need. We were tired of making ice in ice trays and I’m used to getting water and ice from refrigerators I’ve had in past residential homes. When I initially spoke with Nora, their dispatcher/gatekeeper, she told me if I was available the same day, Justin, the owner, could meet me and give me an estimate right there on the spot. Mind you I was told upfront there would be a $75 service fee, but it would be waived/deducted from the invoice if we hired them for the job. Once given the total price minus my Veterans discount (which saved us $150) - I shook this man’s hand from Texas, and he said his best men that service the Lakeland area would be out here in three days! Dalton and Timothy did exactly what they were supposed to and installed a water line with a shutoff valve within a cabinet next to where the refrigerator will be installed this week! Quick, efficient, no issues, professional job well done and even told me to have a 3/8”x1/4” brass supply line adapter in case the new fridge line is a 1/4”! I highly recommend this company for any type of plumbing service you need. Strong work ethic, friendly and professional people. Thank you so very much Justin, Nora, Dalton and Timothy!!! God Bless You All! read less

His crew came out and completed the job in the time frame he stated. He was available by phone to answer questions and address any changes that came up. It's been a week and my water is is great with better pressure that what I had before the re-pipe.

He went beyond the problem of the clog and when it entailed more than expected, didn’t charge US for it. When he arrived, it was to give us an estimate. When he realized it was basically just a clog, he said he’d just do it for nothing - five minutes tops. Then when he realized it was more complicated, he was going to go through for nothing and I said absolutely not - fair is fair after all snd this was an estimate visit. He said the base cost was $199 and he could certainly do it for that or he could submit the estimate and I said to go ahead. He decided to be sure my previous effort at removing the drain cover didn’t cause a leak snd through a teeny square went this huge person. Found a double drain and out he came for more tools and back he went fortified by cold water. He emptied the p-trap while he was there and fixed everything and came out (more water) and completed the inside work. Friendly, thorough-to-a-fault, and as nice as he could be. It’s done. Perfectly and I know how to open the drain - did I mention he provided training? $199. Good God, why would you look at another plumbing service? It won’t always be that cheap. But you’ll never get cheated and you’ll always get a guarantee and be satisfied. Thanks, Justin, for sending us Kenneth (Tennis)! I may adopt him. read less
